Hello,

when I use the parallax effect as described in your video “Creating a parallax background effect with in5”, the background image is not fixed and the next page cannot scroll over it.
The same is true with text, which does not scroll over the subject (as seen in your Sneak Peeks video).
Are there any special export settings that need to be considered?

Regards,
Claudia

Hi Claudia,

The parallax effect from the video tutorial was specific for a One-Page Scrolling setup in in5, so all pages would need to be vertically stacked into a single continuous scroll. If your project is using page-by-page navigation, the background won't be able to use the parallax effect because there's no long scrolling canvas for the effect to work across.

There is another video Myra created How To Create a Scrolling Site with Background Video & Animations that might help.

Hi in5-team,

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I export via the Easy Export Wizard as a Web One-page site, but the image keeps scrolling... I export in Advanced mode as Borderless Page Scroll (Vertical), but the image continues to scroll. I also watched the video “Parallax Background Scrolling - in5 v3.7 Sneak Peeks” and applied the visible export settings -> no success.
What does a one-page scrolling setup have to look like so that I can use the parallax effect?

I had already seen the other video yesterday, but unfortunately it doesn't help me any further.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Hi Claudia,
After reviewing your messages and doing some additional internal testing, the parallax behavior has changed since the original “Parallax Background Effect” video was created. In that older method, the background image was fixed in place and the rest of the content scrolled over it, creating that immersive layered effect you were trying to replicate.

In newer versions of in5 the behavior of parallax has been adjusted to improve performance and eliminate jumpy behavior. The updated behavior causes the background image to scroll more slowly (instead of staying still), which makes the effect more subtle and less pronounced, especially with smaller background images.

If your goal is to have a background image remain completely stationary while the content scrolls on top of it, there’s another technique that works and is featured in this updated tutorial How to Create a Scrolling Site with Background Video & Animation using two InDesign files (one for background, one for content).

Although the video uses a looping background video, you can absolutely swap in a static image or even an image sequence using two InDesign files (one for background, one for content) to create a fixed background effect.
We appreciate you pointing out that the older video no longer reflects the current behavior. We'll be adding a note in the video description to clarify how the parallax effect now works in recent versions of in5.
