How do I fit a document to width of the screen?

I have a standard A4 document that needs to go on mobile for something pretty simple, rather than a showcase of in5s abilities.

Works fine on desktop, but have tried every setting for mobile and it always fills the screen and cuts off the right hand side.

I was looking at the in5 API Docs and realized the first thing listed is adding `#targetengine 'in5api'` to the top of the script. That line is something exclusive to ExtendScript if i recall correctly, so it wont work in the more modern UXP scripting. Is there a way to access the api using a `require()` or `import` statement so that the api could be used with UXP scripts?

I am working on a homepage that has 10 squares and each has a heading and has subtext when hovered on. Each square goes to a page in InDesign that has a multi-state object with page numbers to go to the prev and next state. Is there any way to click to sections from the intial screen (homepage)? For example, Settlement Class, when you hover you see the subtext has 4 sections and if you are only interested in Notices, that User can hover on the button and click on Notice to jump to a certain page in the MSO in another page in InDesign. Let me know if that is possible - I've inserted a screenshot for more clarification. Thank you!

Fixed position object honouring Indesign layers

New to all of this, so am struggling in certain areas.

I want my background image to be fixed (pinned), whilst the text scrolls above it. I have achieved this with scrollable frames, but I have found them flaky on export, with elements moving around, even though grouped. So, my next port of call was the Fixed Position widget. It works, but doesn't honour the Indesign layers. Is there anyway to make this widget keep the layer order?

Error Image Optimization and font folder not created

For several days now, we’ve been receiving an error message related to image optimization. If we select "none," the export works correctly, but if we choose "standard" or "enhanced," it reports a problem. This didn’t happen before. The error occurs with both the latest version and the previous version of the plugin.

We also see that fonts folder is not being created correctly, which results in the CSS not being generated properly.

I'm using InDesign v20.4 on a MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Pro. in5 version 3.8.24

I'm working on an 82-page magazine that has slideshows, animations and videos. When I export as fixed-layout epub, everything works fine. When I 'publish online' (to Adobe's server) everything works fine.

The client wants the ability to upload the publication on their own servers, so I purchased a gold licence of in5, after testing it out on the trial version (which worked fine).

Now, with the licensed version, the videos don't work. Everything seems to export properly, but when you open it in (safari and chrome) a browser, the videos don't play. Chrome says file not found, Safari opens a folder with a file called Media selected.

I thought maybe the size of the document and all the rich media was causing a conflict or something, so I made a single page InDesign file, placed a video (.mp4) and tried again. Same thing.

Can someone help? I'm really at my wits end - and support doesn't seem to be giving any support at all.

Parallac effect: Parallax image is moving

Hello,

when I use the parallax effect as described in your video “Creating a parallax background effect with in5”, the background image is not fixed and the next page cannot scroll over it.
The same is true with text, which does not scroll over the subject (as seen in your Sneak Peeks video).
Are there any special export settings that need to be considered?

Box padding/alignment to text or vice versa

Hi,

I'm having a right issue with this. I'm having a problem with just having a filled box having equal padding on the top and bottom.

Have set the text box to have a fill and inset spacing of 24px - I end up with a result of the bullets not rendering properly and still

Settings wise, the document is being exported with text rendering as HTML+ local font and I've tried HTML + websafe. The font used in the document is open sans - which is provided in the CSS from google fonts.

There are about 20-30ish pages with this similar layout, each with different amounts of text,so I could do with something I can control with a style. I know there are options to have text rendered as image and or convert the bullets to text (which in itself is a nightmare because tabs do not work??). Unfortunately these are not solutions as this document needs to be accessible.

Any solutions for this?

I created a button for the 'object states' and specified 'Go to state' for each Object, then set the appearance of the button to different shapes for 'Rollove'r and 'Click'. Rollover works fine, but 'Click' is not displayed properly.

When I click on it, it looks fine, but when I release the button, the changed shape reverts to its original state.

Hi everyone,

I have a 48-page mobile project with lots of galleries, videos, MSOs, etc.

Everything runs smoothly locally and in my desktop browsers. However, as soon as I open the page from the server on my iPhone, I get a message saying that a problem has occurred repeatedly and the page won't load. I've already exported parts of the document, and it worked, but never the entire document. Could it have something to do with Safari's limited memory and too many MSOs? If so, how can I get the problem under control?

Is there a way to use either left and right arrows or assign keyboard shortcuts to navigate animations within a page?

I export using slider horizontal, which moves from page to page using my keyboards arrow keys. I have a page that has content that is activated by clicking a button on the page (which acts a bit like a sub page), but I have to use a mouse to click the buttons to activate the animation, can I do it with keyboard keys?

I've got some 'next' and 'previous' buttons which have the function "Go to Next page" and "Go to Previous page" actions in a fixed position element. My current build of the document is set to continuous scroll, and all works great and looks how I want it to. However, the next and previous page button doesn't seem to do anything. Is there anyway I can tell the buttons to go to forward or back to 'pages' - I'm aware they aren't pages and its kind of all stitched together, so is there a way around this?

At first I thought it was a browser issue, but this does not happen on every computer, same browser, different computer, I am viewing on Chrome on both computers, one is fine, the other it happens sporadically. Not all images on the same page do it,

Bullet Point style exporting differently, with extra spacing

When I export to web, all bullet points throughout my document show up differently than my paragraph style settings, rather than having the correct indent, the bullet point is fixed to the left and the text is as if it has been tabbed right a couple off times, is this a known issue? It is as if it is ignoring the paragraph style

Currently, the available options in Page Format include:

Behavior/Functionality of MSOs changed mid-project

I've been working on a BIG project for several weeks, and am utilizing MSOs extensively. A couple of days back, pages that were previously working as expected seemed to randomly stop working, without me altering any element on the page. More specifically:

I have a series of pages that feature some intro content and a button(s) that open a "modal" pop-up MSO that takes over the page and displays further content. On two of the pages that were previously working, the buttons on the page no longer respond to mouseover or click actions, and seem to be blocked by something. If I remove the MSO from the page, they work. But as best I can tell, they are built in exactly the same way as other pages in the document. I have a running version that displays the problem here:

The content on the 3rd and 6th-9th pages work as expected, but the 4th and 5th page display the problem. At the time of export, I was using InDesign 2025 (20.0.1) and In5 (3.8.20 or .21). As part of my troubleshooting, I updated InDesign to 20.1 and In5 to 3.8.24, but that seemed to introduce even more issues, as now NONE of my pages now seem to work as they have previously, and I'm having additional problems with nested MSOs appearing on page load instead of when the container MSO is triggered.

I've built a simple page that demonstrates the blocked button issue and the nested MSO issue. The live page can be viewed here:

I created an HTML5 web banner using In5 because it produced a smaller file size than an animated GIF would have for the same animation. The issue I ran into was making it loop continuously. I found a partial answer in the Knowledge Base, which suggested using the "Presentation Mode" enhancement to generate a looping animation, but that seems to max out at a 9 second slide duration, which was about 6 seconds shorter than my full animation.
The fix was to edit the "in5.config.js" file in the assets folder. In the var autoPlay = line, I changed the value from 9000 to 15000 and it worked a charm.

It would be great to have that ability in the In5 interface. This is a great solution for creating single page animated web banners whose animation runs longer than the 9 sec limit set in the interface.

Slider (Fade In) setting is exporting as a single continuous page...

I recently updated to Indesign 2025 and the newest version of IN5. I am working in a massive interactive web app project that includes almost 4 thousand pages and over 10 thousand links. I just ran an export yesterday with my standard Slider settings (which I have been using for several years) and it came out as a single continuous scrolling page with many of the interactive functions missing... Hi, I’m using in5 to export an InDesign document as a flipbook. In my original InDesign file, some pages are single (e.g., the first cover page, a special page 4 that functions like a second cover), while others are facing pages.

Is there a way to configure in5 so that these single pages remain single in Flipbook mode, rather than automatically appearing in pairs? I’d like to preserve the exact layout structure from InDesign, where certain pages are standalone and not forced into a spread.

Is it possible to add more than one class to the Export Tagging class field on an object style?

In the Export Tagging tab of an object style, is there a way to have a second class be emitted from the style? For our purposes we need to add a class that Swiper.js recognizes to prevent swiping when moving a horizontal scrolling frame, but any second class i put there ends up being combined with the first.

So far every character ive tried is converted to a dash or is ignored, combining the two classes.

InDesigns docs state that a space is enough to create multiple classes so i figured it was something in5 was doing. Is there a character or pattern i can use to emit 2 classes?

I can obviously do this with js but would prefer to do it within indesign as it would require less reworking

Animations on continuous scroll

Hi,

When exporting a doc with continuous scroll (vertical) there a way for animations to trigger slightly earlier on page load setting?

I'm finding that as you scroll down, animations do not trigger until you hit the middle of the page, where as I'd prefer them to trigger when the user hits either 1/4 in or at the top. Otherwise there's about a second where the page is just blank.

On a side note, is there a way to make animation only play once in the document?

When I try to export a larger Indesign file with websafe fonts or local webfonts Indesign crashes. That does not happen, when I export a small file with less objects.

When generating styles for an override, add second class instead of creating autoParaStyle

When generating styles for text with an override applied, it would probably be better, at least from my developer perspective, to add a second override class in addition to the original class instead of creating a whole new autoParaStyle, then the override class only contains the affected overrides in the style.

for example, given a bullet paragraph style 'Num-List' with a right indent of 45px, if overridden to 30px, the generated HTML would look like:

<ol class="Num-List autoOverride1" start="1"> 
     <li>List Text.</li>
</ol>

instead of:

<ol class="autoParaStyle1" start="1"> 
     <li>List Text.</li>
</ol>

so that any styles or js that select for the 'Num-List' style would still apply

Hi, would it be possible to pull the current page number into a variable that could then be used in a hyperlink?

I’m creating a large document (60+ pages), that will have multilingual versions, and want to create a language button in an mso.

The content on each page is too large to embed in an mso, which is one of the methods describe in another answer to a similar question.

My thought is that I can use one mso on the master page, that will then link each page to the same page in the alt language versions, without having to individually edit each one. For reference, there are currently three languages, but more are going to be added.

Images not appearing on pages, white line on cover page, and text not crisp

I'm using this software for the first time and exporting my publication as a flipbook. And I'm having all these issues:

Images not appearing on pages (I can see the images in the menu at the bottom)
white line on cover page (there's a line where 2 boxes of different colors meet)
and text not crisp (it's slightly blurred).

Any helps is sincerely appreciated.

UPDATE: I was able to solve issues 2 and 3 by changing the text to SVG. But, the images are still missing. I have the copyright. They are in the picture frame with the setting fitting the frame proportionally. I don't know what else to do.

I have a problem with Mobile Article Explorer. The text is not displayed correctly on my smartphone. The screen is not being used to its full potentiel and the font size is too large. Therefore the text is not easy to read. In the browser version it works perfectly.

Can you edit the display of the text?

Where could the error come from?

Could it be the smartphone itself if it´s too old?

Edit resources not working

Sometimes, when you try to change the resources, either CSS or JS, and press the "+" button or attempt to edit a field, the "Edit resource" pop-up does not appear.

The only way to resolve this is to deactivate the account and then reactivate it.

Save Presets but only a few fields are saved

I have different presets, but when I apply them, there are a couple of bugs that maybe you can fix:

Title: Does not change.
Destination Folder: Does not change.
Resources: Adds new CSS files to the existing ones but does not delete the previously applied ones. For JavaScript, it does not add the new files and keeps the old ones.

The other fields seem fine.

Is there a way to remove the underline from hanging spaces on wrapped hyperlinked text? There doesn't seem to be a way (aside from manually) in InDesign. I have seen a few java script options (one from David Blatner) but they can only be run once when the document is final and mine is ever-changing. Can the JS be used in in5 so they only run on export on not on the native INDD file?

Hi, I set up a simple looping animation of a circle going around an ellipse path. The animation looks fine in ePub preview and on Publish online, but the In5 HTML version is kind of choppy as the circle goes around. Is there anything I can do differently to smooth it out?

How to create a quiz with a scoring feature

Hi, I'd like to create a true or false quiz that keeps track of the user's score. I used the "button anchored to text box" trick to allow buttons within the main quiz MSO to also control the state of my score MSO. Works perfectly in the ePub preview.

I have an animation of a padlock I made in InDesign, and a .mp3 of a padlock locking.

I'm triggering both of these with one button and in the Timing panel they are linked. On export though the animation will play first then the mp3 about half a second later. This is only on the first click of the "lock" button. Subsequent clicks of the button provide a perfect sync.

Is there a way to get them to be in sync from the beginning? I tried adding a delay to the animation but then there's a delay for subsequent clicks.

Is it a matter of somehow getting the sound loaded up first?

OAM Animations not working on final export but work in EPUB preview

I am just getting back to this project and we've created a map where the states changes color as you hover or pass over them. We put that OAM file in my INDD file where I have all of the other content. The state name abbreviations serve as the buttons that will take you to specific other pages/screens. Everything looks and works correctly when I use EPUB Preview but when I do an actual in5 export the color change animation doesn't work the map is there and the link functionality is there but the states don't change color when hover or pass over them. Is there something I need to change in my export process that is prohibiting the animations?
