The parallax effect from the video tutorial was specific for a One-Page Scrolling setup in in5, so all pages would need to be vertically stacked into a single continuous scroll. If your project is using page-by-page navigation, the background won't be able to use the parallax effect because there's no long scrolling canvas for the effect to work across.

You can check your version by going to in5 > Info and Updates... and checking the version number in the upper right of the in5 - Info & Updates dialog that opens. If it's an earlier version, try downloading the latest version, installing it, and re-exporting your content.

It's possible that the issue with the formatting is due to style overrides. You can view them in your InDesign layout by going to the Character Styles panel menu or the Paragraph Styles panel menu and selecting Toggle Style Override Highlighter. When that option is enabled, text that is formatted with overrides to the styles appear highlighted in cyan. Here is a video that shows how to clear the style overrides.

If you do export with Text Rendering set to either HTML with Local Font Embedding or HTML with Web-Safe Fallback Fonts, then in5 uses the Character, Paragraph, and Object Styles to create the CSS. If there are overrides, then in5 goes through a series of checks to try to "guess" what the style should be. These overrides can cause unintended results. So if you'd like to export with HTML text and the HTML text styles aren't rendering as expected, clear any style overrides. Here's more information on Text Rendering.

For the bullets, I would recommend converting the bullets to text. Select the affected text and go to Type > Bulleted and Numbered Lists > Convert Bullets to Text. Text Wrap only works under certain conditions with live text in HTML. Here's a video with more information.

Yes, it's very likely that you're getting a memory error on iOS, especially with the videos and a document that is fairly long.

I would recommend using the following tips to optimize your content:

Here's an article with tips for improving loading time (and exporting time while you're working on the document) for long documents which are generally greater than 60 pages but can be helpful for any document:
- Tips & Best Practices for Exporting Long-form Digital Documents from InDesign with in5 (and speeding up load time)
Image optimization is helpful too. It's included in the tips in the article above. If you have a Gold subscription, then you can use the Enhanced image optimization which further optimizes images and removes duplicates.
- Reduce & consolidate images with in5's Enhanced Image Optimization
You can check to make sure that your images use an appropriate online resolution of 72 ppi for standard or 144 for high definition image quality. Here's more information on image quality that might help:

For placed videos, make sure that they are edited down to the dimensions that you plan to use when placing them in your layout:

Or you could use a streaming service like YouTube or Vimeo and embed the video
- Adding Audio & Video - Streaming Videos
There are also some features that increase file size, so you might consider changing some of those options:
- Larger impact settings:
  - Liquid Layout exports higher resolution images so that they can be scaled up in the browser (as needed).
  - Rendering text as SVG exports a lot more data (vector points for all of the text characters)
  - Embedding local fonts can increase the size, especially with large fonts or large numbers of fonts
  - Increasing the Image Quality can make a large difference
- More minor differences:
  - Different Page Formats/Features (e.g. swipe) can account for minor size difference because they require different CSS and JavaScript libraries
  - Multimedia will add file size, not just the media but also the libraries
  - Folio Overlays, Social Sharing, and Analytics may require slightly more JavaScript in the output
- When you export, some files may remain from previous exports (which is why your size may not shrink back down). To remove the unnecessary previous files, make sure the Clear Previously Exported Files option is selected.
  - From the Help doc:
    - The Clear Previously Exported Files option deletes any existing files within the assets directory of the Destination Folder. Using this option ensures that if the export has been run multiple times, unused files are discarded in order to save file space when the files are uploaded to a web server or packaged as an app.

When you apply Fixed Position Element to an object, it gets taken out of the document flow, so it won't know what would be a previous page or a next page.

When you export your InDesign layout with in5, you can add metadata by adding a description in the SEO & Meta section of the Export HTML5 with in5 dialog (in5 > Export HTML5 with in5...). You can enter up to a 155-character description and comma-separated keywords. If you use the Auto button to the right of the Keywords field, in5 will add the most frequently used words in your document. Is this in the document that you sent? If so, can you tell me on which page (and on which alternate layout if it's only on one of them) I can find it?

I would also mention that exporting with Text Rendering set to Images is the best way to make your output match your layout--especially if you had to make a lot of adjustments to get your content to fit in a specific way in a table.

Alternatively, you can group with table with an invisible rectangle and select Render Groups as Images in the Advanced section of the Export HTML5 with in5 dialog. To preserve HTML text, you can add the Mobile Article Explorer. Be aware that Render Groups as Images will convert other groups to images--including groups that contain interactive content.

There are 4 different ways that you can export text with in5 that include two HTML options.

Images (preserves exact appearance)
HTML with Web-Safe Fallback Fonts
HTML with Local Font Embedding (when possible)*
SVG (preserves appearance + scalable)

The best way to make your InDesign layout match your in5 output is to set Text Rendering in the Basic section of the Export HTML5 with in5 dialog (in5 > Export HTML5 with in5...) to Images.

The InDesign Media panel no longer includes the Controller option. It was present in earlier versions of InDesign (Justin's reply on the Answer Exchange was from 2016).

I recently updated to Indesign 2025 and the newest version of IN5. I am working in a massive interactive web app project that includes almost 4 thousand pages and over 10 thousand links. Can you describe what you mean by the fonts are messy and share an example of a page where you notice the issue?

In the meantime, I would mention that setting Text Rendering to HTML text with Local Font Embedding (when possible)* will only embed fonts if the license you have for each font allows embedding.

If you don't have a license for a font that you'd like to use in your output, then set Text Rendering to HTML with Web-Safe Fallback Fonts and add web fonts from either Adobe Fonts (formerly Typekit) or Google Fonts. Here's how:

You could have separate documents that are in different languages and use buttons to navigate to the user's preferred language. The available language options could either be buttons on a landing page or the buttons could be on each separate document set to navigate to the desired language. If you want to create variables to control the language and aren't familiar with coding, then I would recommend hiring a web developer.

Images not appearing on pages, white line on cover page, and text not crisp

I'm using this software for the first time and exporting my publication as a flipbook. And I'm having all these issues:

Images not appearing on pages (I can see the images in the menu at the bottom)
white line on cover page (there's a line where 2 boxes of different colors meet)
and text not crisp (it's slightly blurred).

Any helps is sincerely appreciated.

UPDATE: I was able to solve issues 2 and 3 by changing the text to SVG. But, the images are still missing. I have the copyright. They are in the picture frame with the setting fitting the frame proportionally. I don't know what else to do.

Answered: Save Presets but only a few fields are saved

I'll confirm with Justin, but I suspect the Title and Destination Folder should not change with a saved export preset by design. You would save an export preset in order to apply the same export settings to another document that would likely have a different name and a different location.

If you would like to keep the same Title and Destination Folder for a document, you could save a copy of the document. Export settings are saved with a document, so you wouldn't need to create a preset in this case.

I tested whether CSS and JavaScript resources would also transfer. They both work for me.

I would add that if either the CSS or the JavaScript resource has the same name as an existing resource in the document where an export preset is being applied, the export preset's resource will overwrite the existing one. By default, in5 automatically names a new resource "resource-1.css" or "resource-1.js." If you'll be using resources in your export presets, I'd recommend giving them unique names.

You can modify the Hyperlink Character Style to remove the underline by double-clicking on it in the Character Styles panel (Window > Styles > Character Styles), going to the Basic Character Formats section in the Character Styles dialog, and deselecting Underline.

First, I can see that your content was exported with in5 version 3.8.16. There have been a couple of updates since then. The current version is 3.8.18. In general, I would recommend updating to the most recent version whenever you encounter an issue to see if the newer version helps.

So I exported it with 3.8.18. The animation appears about the same as the earlier version of in5, though.

I'm going to send your files to our developer to see if they have any recommendations.

In the meantime, if you want more control over your animation and/or create more sophisticated animation, you could create it in Adobe Animate or Tumult Hype, publish an OAM file, place it (File > Place...) in your document, and export with in5.

Although you can use InDesign's form elements to create quizzes and save selected answers locally, I'd recommend embedding a 3rd party quiz if you want to have it keep score. Here's a video that shows how to embed a matching pairs activity from a service called Educaplay:

They offer other types of activities including a Yes/No activity that might work for your True/False quiz, and it will provide the user's score.

One way you could make both videos play sequentially and with sound on a single page would be to use a button, a multi-state object (MSO), and the in5 Video widget. The button would be set up to play the first video, the Video widget would include an end action that affects the MSO, and the video in the MSO would be set to autoplay. Here's how:

Place both videos on the page.
Make a button (it could be less conspicuous like a button that says "Start").
Assign a Video action set to Play the video that should play first.
Select the second video.
Go to Window > Interactive > Object States and click the + button at the bottom of the panel to convert the select to an MSO (InDesign will duplicate the video so that there are 2 states).
Select State 1 in the Object States panel and go to the Layers panel where you can twirl open the MSO to access the state and then the video that is on that state.
Either replace the video with a poster image you've created separately, or use Object Export Options to convert the video to an image by doing the following:
1. With the video selected, go to Object > Object Export Options.
2. Select the EPUB and HTML tab.
3. Set Preserve Appearance From Layout to Rasterize Content.
4. Set the Format (PNG will maintain transparency).
5. Set the Resolution to 150 for High Definition or 72 for Standard.
6. When you export (in5 > Export HTML5 with in5...), go to the Advanced section of the export dialog and set Image Quality to Use Object Export Settings.
Select the video in State 2 and go to in5 > Interactive Widgets > Video to set the following:
1. Auto Play - selected
2. Mute - deselected
Select the video that should play first.
Go to in5 > Interactive Widgets > Video and set the following:
1. Autoplay - deselected
2. Mute - deselected
3. Loop - deselected
4. End Action - Go to State and in the Select an MSO dialog that appears, select the MSO and target state that includes the 2nd video

Currently, in5 does not support Timing settings for any behavior that is not an Animation Behavior, so it does not support linking the playing of your audio with your animation.

You might try either

Combining the animation and audio in either Adobe Animate or Tumult Hype, publishing an OAM file, placing (File > Place...) the OAM file in your document, and exporting with in5.
- Adding Animation from Tumult Hype or Adobe Animate to an InDesign + in5 project
Using the in5 Animated GIF Maker to create an MP4 from your animation, edit the resulting video to add the audio (you can use Adobe Express to add the audio to your video), and placing the video that combines the animation and audio in your document, and exporting with in5.
